Trail Rated® Systems

Rock-Trac® 4x4 system

The Rock-Trac® 4x4 system comes standard on the mighty Rubicon model. This ready-to-go warrior has the guts to tackle whatever the road throws at you — Wrangler Unlimited was named "4x4 of the Decade" by Four Wheeler magazine. The Rock-Trac 4x4 System gives you more control and more torque, offering superior off-road performance with a 4:1 low-gear ratio that lets you crawl at a lower speed with a greater increase in torque at the wheels.

Command-Trac®
4x4 system

The Command-Trac® transfer case is smooth and quiet, yet tough and beefy, so you can tackle challenging terrain with confidence. Whether your quest for adventure takes you up and over the red rocks of Moab or sends you out onto roads buried in fresh snow, your Trail Rated® Wrangler Unlimited is up for the challenge. Get in, grab on and go.

Quadra-Drive® II
4x4 system with rear ELSD

The available Quadra-Drive® II with rear electronic limited slip differential is a full-time 4x4 system so it's always active. It is our most advanced 4x4 system and delivers superior all-weather capability by transferring up to 100% of available torque to a single rear wheel if needed.

Quadra-Trac II®
4x4 System

Capability breeds confidence. The available Quadra-Trac II® 4x4 System features a two-speed low transfer case that uses input from a variety of sensors in order to determine tire slip at the earliest possible moment and take corrective action. When tire slippage is detected, as much as 100% of available torque is instantly routed to the axle with the most traction. Choose the Auto mode in the available Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System for everyday driving or quickly dial in Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud or Rock for specific driving conditions. Go boldly.

Freedom Drive II®
4x4 System

Building on the active, full-time 4x4 capability provided by Freedom Drive I and adding Brake Lock differential and selectable LOCK mode, Freedom Drive II® also adds selectable locking Off-Road mode with Hill Descent Control along with grade-sensing features and a boost to the crawl ratio for use in more rugged conditions. When not in low-speed Off-Road LOCK mode, torque is adjusted on demand for added control and efficiency.
